National Film Board of Canada

I had not thought about the National Film Board of Canada since I was a kid in school. Near the end of some school days, we all gleefully sat around and watched a short documentary. That is my favorite memory of school. I loved watching the films. Anyway...I came across the NFBC's website and voila! a whole cornucopia of films!

Last night I watched a documentary on Kanehsatake. Some background....in 1990 the mayor and council of Oka, a small village in Quebec decided to expropriate/steal ( for the nth time ) even more land from the Mohawk Nation to add another 9 holes to their golf course. Yes. A fucking golf course. The Canadian army became involved. 150 million, yes million dollars was spent on it, and to this day, the land claims are still not decided. Sad. Sad and pitiful.

How cool! But odd. Watermelon Carving

*snort* *giggle * Crappy kids artwork

Ice ice baby Ice Waterfalls

* snarf snarf * Amazing Cakes

I can finally see a bit of blue poking out amongst the grey clouds, so gotta' take the dogs for a stroll while it's not too bad.

Enjoy your day!

Dog Shit Lasagna Addendum

Geeezuz.....I've had 4 people email me about my previous post. People that don't comment on the blog, ever, but apparently think my entire yard is/was covered in dog shit.

So, for them, I will explain. My dogs...and any others that have owned me, regulate themselves to a certain area of the yard to deposit their ass trash. I live on 1 acre. ( small to country lifers, but large to the city folks with a teeny yard ) And I'll admit it....sometimes I don't *GASP* scoop poop every day. There may be a day or two a month where I get home in the dark....or, fuck it, I'm wasted from my day and I just don't want to.

It's not like the whole yard was encrusted with shit!

Soooooo! To all you daily perfect poop scoopers, this is for you!

Photobucket

May your scooper always be clean, may your yard never encompass more than 20 feet squared ( yes, I am still on feet and inches! ), and may you always be as perfect a dog owner as you think you are.

Death by Winter ( and Dog Shit Lasagna )

When it had first snowed a month or so ago, it dumped a few inches and covered the dog shit. It was so pretty, all the white.

Then when it melted and I went to scoop poop, it was frozen solid. Not pretty.

It snowed some more, and made me forget about the shit underneath.

And then we had torrential winds. Those winds blew a lot of branches and leaves off. Then, more snow.

Here's the shitty part. ( aren't I clever??!!! ) There was a layer of shit, a layer of leaves/twigs/braches, then another layer of shit and.....well you get it.

Since no one lives behind me, I wheel barreled 14 katrillion loads around and tipped the loads underneath some Cherry trees. Sour cherries and only the birds eat them, but fertilizer none the less.

Not everything in my garden survived. My Rosemary crapped out.

But my Sage pulled through the cold spells just dandy!

And the Lavender

Chocolate Mint too!

Thyme always seems to pull it off

And! Oooh! Ooooh! LOOK! Wee Snow Drops seeing the light!

And a few small Chives!

Day Lilies popping up. They get soooo pretty!

Watcher! Are ya' comfy on my, our your bed?

Well.....Yes I am! Thanks for askin'!

Ticket's off leash Heeling went okay yesterday. Actually, pretty damn good! She is a much more serious learner than Watcher and Frankie. I wonder if it is because she is a female...are they more studious than male dogs? She's the first female canine who's owned me so I have no reference personally.

And it's odd, because she gravitates towards the light colored toys. The boys go for the darker colors. I wonder if there has ever been a study done? ( hey, if they can do studies about why different cigarette ashes are darker than others, they could do one about dogs and colors! )

Ticket and her pink squeakie

Frank say hi too....

It's just after noon here right now. Going to make a cuppa tea ( Red Rose dahling....remember that commercial? ) , then shove us all in the van and make our way down to the river. Hope you all have a wonderful day!

Vet Ratingz and Stuff

Very good resource here for checking your Vet's or future Vet's rating. Our Vet rated 4.5, and that's about what I'd put him at....no one is perfect! ( Canada and U.S. )

How Does Your Vet Rate?

Women In Art

I am constantly amazed with youtube. Did you know that you can whole watch entire films there? Granted, it seems to be mainly the older B&W films, but hell!, I love those! I just finished watching The Best Years of Our Lives ( that link will take you to the IMDB site for info ) I watched it Here

Oh! I got a new program....PhotoShop Elements 7. *happy dancing* I'm going to try my hand at making a background for this blog! Also will be tweaking a lot of photos. But not the following one...my son Kelly took it somewhere on a beach in California. Pretty good eye huh!

Today is going to be spent teaching my girl Ticket to heel off leash. She does quite well on, and is very much a serious girl when it comes to training so I can't see any problems. Wish us well!

Ticket looking gorgeous....

Fostering Canines

I've been going through some old photo folders. I had no idea I had taken so many! Ah well, it's almost impossible for me to delete any photos of my dogs, or family, or friends....so they are all on cd now. Safe and sound. Never will they go into cyberworld if my pc crashes.

But, going through the folders can be fun! Soooo many photos I forgot I had taken, or were sent from family members. Much fun!

Here's a puppy, Jade, who I fostered till her people found her and adopted her. Pitty x, 2 months old, who ruled the roost while she was with us. What a freaking riot she was!!

I am the RULER!! You shall obey me!!

Ummmm, no.

Silly silly boy dog....chicks rule!

Watcher was pretty sure that I had brought Jade home for him.
He quite simply adored her, and was terribly distraught when she left.

Till Sean came along! 5 month old Lab, who again, ruled the roost. My guys were no match for his 24-7 exuberance. They did try though!

BARKBARKBARKBARKBARKBARKBARKBARK!!!!

Puuuleeeeeze make him shuuuut up!

Sean loved his squeaky toys.

Meeting his "Mom" for the first time.

And the rest of his new pack, his kids.

And this is Leah. 5 month old German Shepherd. She was almost my first failing at fostering.

Understandable why I almost failed right?

I think I have fostered over a dozen dogs now. Well, mostly pups actually. There is a shortage for foster homes for the younger ones. I always prefer them though! They bring alot of excitement into this house with them. My heart has never been broken when they go though, even though I do indeed love them. My house was just a "way station" of sorts, till their rightful families came along.

Hey, if you have some room in your house and heart, think about fostering for your local Animal Control/Pound/SPCA or private rescues. If you don't have the room in your house, but do in your heart, here's a link to 100 Ways to Help a Rescue/Shelter dog/cat

Whoa!

Snow? My good dear friend, I did not expect to see you so soooon! I thought it would be a few more days! Welcome!

Look closely at the snow shadows on the mountain rocks...they remind me of cloud watching as a child ( and an inner child ), to see what I could see in them. What do you see? I see a couple of baboons.

Just a few days ago it was sunny, but crisp. Now, it is again, a winter wonderland! ( well, sorta'! )

Just a stinkin' few days ago it was this!

We get this weirdo thing with our cool air and even temperatures by being nestled in the Cascade Mountain range.

It's settled down to a piss of rain ( fuck you rain! ),and a smattering of the 10 cm's the snow fell. ( whorish slutty roads ) ( can roads be whorish and slutty? I think and know so) I fear the snow will be gone by morning. DANG!

( did I just say DANG! out loud? Forgive me. Please. Thanks. )

( and is it weird to have thoughts in brackets, and then thoughts of those thoughts be in brackets?)

Weird day.

Oh. And it will rain today. Loverly. Fucking wet west coast.
