River Rising

This the town where I live. The bigger swath of river is the ( muddy ) Fraser River. That small swath on the bottom is the Coquihalla River. It is a clear crystal river, that is mostly snow runoff from the mountains. Normally the rivers run fairly calmly ( except through the Fraser Canyon, which is where alot of river-rafting is done ) but at this time of year with the snow runoffs, it is raging. And rising.

I went under the Alexandria Bridge yesterday and took a couple of video's and a few photos.

This is what we had to walk on to get to the other side. Gawd, every time I looked down I had a sensation of vertigo.

The Camping Trip

I learned I was ill-prepared for it.

And I learned that I really do not like roughing it.

K, the ill-prepared parts.....why didn't I think to bring an air mattress? Why didn't I set up the borrowed tent beforehand to make sure it was long enough to stretch my legs/and make sure the f*ckin tent pegs fit the thingies they go into? WHY did I forget my blanket? ( but of course remember to bring 8 dog blankets so they could at least be comfy? )

And, the not thrilled about roughing it part.....I know that even IF I had a tent I could stand up in, and it was square ( this thing I borrowed was round! Round for gawd's sake! AND it was a "2-person" tent! Ummm, are there alot of round people out there? I am only familiar with the up and down kind. sheesh ) I wouldn't pitch a tent anywhere. The shitters in the campgrounds....it doesn't matter how "clean" they look, they creep me out. "Nuff said about that topic. The picnic table was so sticky and dirty it was disgusting. I wanted to sand that crap off and paint the table before I set my beer can down on it! :)

I could go on, but I don't want to sound like a whiner. AND a sniveler.

Watcher and Frank, my German Shepherds, were also not prepared for it. When I take them up in the mountains they are always on 30 foot leads....but those leads are not tied to anything. They have them on just in case I need to pull one of them back from a raccoon, or a skunk, or gawd forbid a bear or? But in this case they had to be tethered to a tree. ( or they would have done a bit of wandering when my back was turned ) If it wasn't pissing me off so much it would have been comical....I had to untangle themselves from each other, or a tree, or my Van, or a huge boulder approximately every 17 seconds. They ended up becoming stressed by the whole situation. Poor buggers.

Anyway, I do NOT see myself "camping" anytime soon.

Oh, I could do it in an R.V. or a camper, 'cause I can get into a fire and BBQ'ing outdoors, and the aromas of the forest are great, but not in a dinky tent.

Here's a couple of photos of a Chipmunk, who hung around the entire time we were there. We didn't have to feed him anything, he seemed to be finding nuts and seeds all over the campsite.

And a couple of a Woodpecker.

No photos of Watcher and Frankie, I was too bloody busy un-tangling.

Silver Lake....goin' campin'

Kelsie, Briann and I are going to be wilderness woman............for a good 30 hours.

We are planning a camping trip middle of next week to
Silver Lake .

It's a great time of the year to do it. The sun is shining, campgrounds are almost STILL ( yay! ) completely void of travelers.
We went and scoped out some campsites that would be large enough for all 5 ( 3 humans and 2 dogs ) of us and found a great one. Whoo hoo!! *a little campsite find dance is happening*

Here's a few photos of the lake and mountains where we'll be.... ( daaaamn, I looove these mountains )

Hmmm, so MANY things to take! on just an overnight camping trip!

Dog stuff, my stuff, tent stuff. How will I keep them in our campsite? Will I have to tether them both to my legs?

K....now everyone bow their heads and pray for sunshine and warmth for 2 days of camping for me
