This guy has never ever eaten a piece of fruit I have offered him. I have tried dicing teeny pieces and sneaking it in chunks of cheese. He spits out the fruit and snarfs the cheese. I've tried sauteing it and putting it with his pasta ( he LOVES pasta ) and he eats around it. I've stuck bits of apple/mango/whatever in with peanut butter and stuffed it into his Kong, to no avail. Fruit is not his bag. He'll eat almost any veggie, but is adamant that fruit sucks.
Or so I thought.
I went to Chilliwack yesterday to sort out some paper work for Unemployment Insurance ( what a hassle,but that's another story ) and took the other dogs 'cause Jack has severe arthritis and is lamed ( is that a word? ) up right now. I came home to this on the kitchen floor.
My first thought was "holy f**k! Jack ate a banana!" My next thought was "wow, did he grow thumbs while I was gone?" I mean,geeeeez, look at the neatness of the peeling of it!
I can understand the slicing of the smaller pieces 'cause he once neatly sliced 2 separate 6' leather leashes with a chef's precision in a matter of minutes. Big dog=sharp teeth and all, but this blew my mind!
Maybe the older he gets the less loudly his taste buds say "ewwww gross, we don't eat fruit!"
Sooooo, after dinner I arranged a little dessert party in his honor. I cut him a sliver of apple, he turned his face away. He looked like he was going to smack me when I offered a piece of orange, and wow if you could have seen his face when I stuck a piece of pineapple in his face you would be frightened for me! So I said "here you silly ass" and gave him a peeled banana. *snarf snarf snarf*
