A Trip to the Big City

I visited Kelly and Sumeet Monday. And I was very very brave about driving over the Bridge From Hell/Port Mann Bridge . That sucker is consistently congested and takes forever to get across. Which is daunting if, like moi, you are a fraidy cat about them.

It was about 5 o'clock by the time I made it to the outskirts of Vancouver. This is where all the crows gather, then fly off together to their rookery. There can be up to 30,000 of them! Can you imagine the shit!! And the noise!!


Sky Train, bloody traffic, and see that guy in the middle of the median? He's going to ask me in about 3 seconds if I want my windows washed. Not. ( it freaking rained all the way down, my windows are clean )

So I got closer and here's how it turned out. A view from the window over looking the concrete jungle of Vancouver.



Excellent visit, it's always great to see and speak with Kelly and Sumeet. They're both happy and healthy and that's all that I want.

Here's what I saw a million and four times in Vancouver



Traffic lights. And most of them red. There is only one stop light in my little town. And half the time it's blinking.

And so it goes....

Yesterday was a comedy of errors freakin' disaster.

I live between 2 mountain ranges and 2 major rivers. We had a wicked cold snap, then a crazy amount of snow, now a crazy amount of rain. Flooding and avalanches are all over.

I also live where 3 major highways meet up. 3 avalanches, numerous mud slides, and major water pooling up on the highways, have meant hundreds of people either staying in town or clogging up the way in and out.

Hordes of nice overtime pay for the highway dept. guys though! Sweet!

When we left home at noon, there was a mud slide they were cleaning up on the opposite side of the highway I traveled on. No problem I thought, they'll have it all cleaned up in a couple of hours when I'd be traveling home.

Not.

Had to back track, go 45 minutes around to find a trillion cars back up, waiting for another slide and water pooling to be cleared.

Good thing I carry human and dog cookies and water! It took 3.5 hours. * scream*

Going to try and get out again tomorrow. Today was very boring.

Here's some color to take away my grey day.

So Quiet

Dogs and I went up Silver Skagit Mountain....for about 1.5miles. Too much snow and I'm in a 2004 Ford Windstar, not gonna' go further. We romped for a bit in 3 feet of snow, I whipped out my Canon S3IS and the fucker froze. I melted snow 6 feet radius with my drunken sailor swearing. Then went back to tossing snowballs for the dogs, following them through drifts ( they make the BEST paths! ),and walked along a frozen creek. I saw little fish through the ice! ( very cool ) My toes were becoming numb, ( wool socks, double layer next time me thinks )so I loaded us up and fearfully drove back down. 1.5 miles up with a steep grade, and coming down was freaky!

Got back to town, went to to where the Coquihalla and Fraser Rivers meet up to see if there were anymore bergs floating down river.

I've never ever heard this river be so quiet.

No *smack* as the water hits the boulders, or the wee sound of water near the sand shore. Nothing. It moves a bit slower, still steady and strong, but no sound.

And no damn bergs! Ah well, still pretty.....

New Year, New Stuff

Haven't been posting....not much to say. Fuck all going on.

Christmas sucked. Didn't get what I wanted, which was to spend it with Kelly and Sumeet. It snowed quite heavily and I am a pussy about driving through the 1/2 hour mountain pass to get on the slippery highway. I had a wicked car accident a number of years ago, and since then I, well....I am a pussy driver.

2008 is gone. Buh bye, I won't miss you.

2009 is here! I am loving you already! I received some news, in the form of instant messenger, that next Christmas and beyond will be absolutely wonderful. ( gonna' keep that info under wraps for now )

My New Year Resolution..... to kick the dogs off my bed at night. Too much dander, shuffling around, scratching, grumbling, and snoring. My sleeps are sucking with all 3 of them piled on. It takes a couple of hours to get to sleep, then the sleep is constantly interrupted by the above. I wake up grumpy, coughing and 1/2 alive. Sorry buddies, your beds and blankets on the floor will have to suffice.

I haven't worked in a couple of months. E.I is there, so I'm not starving, but fuck am I ever bored. I love spending the time with my dogs, for sure, but I also need human interaction. This is a wee small town, only 1 friend here, and she is much younger with a new man, so her time is locked up.

I watched the film The Curious Case of Benjamin Button last night. ( via a torrent ) Excellent. I really enjoyed that. Brad Pitt *sigh*.

Dinner tonight is going to be fattening. And delectable. Seashell Pasta with Mushroom Basil Sauce, Cheese Potato Casserole and sauteed Carrots, Onions and more Mushrooms. I know, I know, starch out the wazoo, but it's comfort food!!
